Titulo: A process-based assessment of land vulnerability: Italy as a case-study
Resumo: Land degradation and desertification (LD&D) represent a severe threat for environment and human survival. LD&D is triggered by initial conditions of environmental fragility and causes are linked to both natural and anthropogenic factors. In a contest of climate change and growing anthropic pressure, this work aims to propose an innovative LD&D evaluation approach and quantify the role of the main degradation systems. Through several environmental indicators, statistical methods and GIS tools, we implemented a synthetic land vulnerability index (LVI) and analyzed the LD&D risk in Italy where, although desertification effects are not immediately observable, the land vulnerability is increasing.
